# Get Involved with Compass

EdEHR Compass is our community-maintained GitBook documentation wiki. Here's how you can contribute to this valuable knowledge resource.

### What is Compass?

Compass serves as the central knowledge repository for EdEHR, containing:

* Planning & Governance
* Legal & Compliance Information
* Educational Implementation guides
* Best practices
* User Guides
  * Faculty
  * Student
  * Course Designers
* Case building tutorials
* Educational resources

As an open documentation project, we welcome contributions from the EdEHR community to keep Compass accurate, comprehensive, and useful.

### Request Access

To become a Compass contributor:

1. **Create a GitBook Account**: Sign up at [gitbook.com](https://gitbook.com) if you don't already have an account
2. **Request Access**: Contact EdEHR Technologies with:
   * Your name
   * Your GitBook username
   * Your institutional affiliation (if applicable)
   * Areas of expertise
   * How you'd like to contribute
3. **Complete Onboarding**: Once approved, you'll receive:
   * An invitation to join the Compass GitBook space
   * Brief contributor orientation
   * Introduction to our documentation standards

### Contributor Guidelines

#### Content Standards

* Use clear, concise language accessible to all users
* Follow our documentation style guide
* Include screenshots or diagrams where helpful
* Organize content logically with appropriate headings
* Maintain a neutral, instructional tone

#### Contribution Process

1. **Identify Needs**: Find documentation gaps or outdated content
2. **Propose Changes**: For major additions, create a proposal through the designated community channels
3. **Make Edits**: Update or create content in the GitBook editor
4. **Submit for Review**: Your changes will be reviewed by a documentation maintainer
5. **Iterate**: Respond to feedback and refine your contribution
6. **Publication**: Approved changes become part of the official documentation

### Basic GitBook Skills

#### Editing Pages

1. Navigate to the page you want to edit
2. Click the "Edit" button in the top right corner
3. Make your changes using the visual editor or Markdown
4. Add a descriptive comment about your changes
5. Click "Submit for Review"

#### Creating New Pages

1. Navigate to the appropriate section
2. Click the "+" button to add a new page
3. Give your page a descriptive title
4. Add content using the editor
5. Use consistent formatting with other pages
6. Submit for review

#### Adding Images

1. Click the image icon in the editor toolbar
2. Upload your image or drag and drop
3. Add descriptive alt text for accessibility
4. Position and resize as needed

#### Creating Links

1. Highlight the text you want to link
2. Click the link icon in the toolbar
3. For internal links, select the destination page
4. For external links, paste the URL
5. Add a title attribute for accessibility

### Documentation Maintenance

#### Page Ownership

Consider becoming a "page owner" responsible for keeping specific sections up-to-date. View available pages.

#### Reviewing Contributions

Experienced contributors can join our reviewer team to help maintain quality standards. Apply here.

### Recognition

Contributors to Compass are recognized through:

* Attribution on pages you create or substantially edit
* Listing on our Compass Contributors page
